History |
In 1991, about ten families of Chinese Evangel Mission Church (New York) who lived in central New Jersey collectively envisioned to reach out to their ethnic Chinese neighbors and friends. Hence they aimed at forming a branch church near their homes. As a beginning, Sunday worship service was held in a member's home on August 18, 1991. Subsequently, Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield graciously let this group of Christians use her facility every Sunday afternoon. Therefore Sunday worship service was held every week beginning on September 10, 1991. Chinese Evangel Mission Church of New Jersey (CEMCNJ) was formally incorporated in September 1993. It had long been the desire for church members to have their own church building. After much prayer, the Lord provided a building at 110 Ryders Lane, East Brunswick and worship service has been held there since October 2, 1994. In the beginning, there was only one worship service, which was in Chinese (Mandarin). As the number of English-speaking members grew, an English service began on October 18, 1998. Since there was not enough space to accommodate two worship services in the church building, the English service met at Cook Campus Center, Rutgers University. Besides the two worship services, ministries of the church also include children and adult Sunday schools, various fellowship groups, retreats, vacation Bible schools and other special events, supported by prayer meetings. As the number of both congregations grew, the church formed an expansion committee and prayed for adequate space. The goal is for both the Chinese and the English services to meet under one roof, and to provide adequate space for Sunday schools and Christian fellowship. The Lord answered the prayer and provided a building at 11 Lexington Avenue, East Brunswick. With God's grace, the Chinese and English congregation began to worship at current site started December 16, 2007. |
